Management & Finances

The building is owned by the London Borough of Redbridge and leased to the Redbridge Theatre Company Ltd, a registered charity (Registration No. 264673)

The original 35 year lease expired in January 2010 and is currently being re-negotiated.  From the beginning the Theatre has been subsidised with a Council grant as a contribution towards the salaries, running costs, insurance, and internal repairs and maintenance. The Council – as the “landlord” – has been responsible for external repairs and maintenance to the fabric of the building itself.  In the last financial year this grant amounted to £130,000.

In 2001 the Council provided an additional grant of £35,000 specifically to fund amateur companies seeking to enlarge the scope of their work, for works aimed at the Borough’s ethnic minority, and for a series of special educational programmes involving local schools. This grant has been renewed on an annual basis since that time.

In the current financial year the main grant has been reduced by £20,000, with a proposed £50,000 cut in each of the next two financial years – requiring the theatre to be self-supporting at the end of that time.  This is the subject of much public disquiet and an ongoing campaign urging the Council to re-consider these cuts.

The Charity (Redbridge Theatre Company Ltd) is controlled by a Board of Governors. Eight of the Governors are appointed by the local council, and seven are elected from the local community. The present Board comprises:
